The Story
The homeowners wanted a place where the whole family could gather for holidays, summer weekends, and long days on the water. They came to McComsey to build a 9,000 square-foot custom home on the Elk River, with a bedroom and bathroom for every family member and the outdoor space to use the river for everything from jet skiing to riding the 4-wheelers.

The family was trying to figure out how to bring everyone home for the holidays without anyone sleeping on the couch. Here’s what they were working with:
Design
Mark C. Myers Architects designed the home around a single goal: a riverfront gathering place big enough for the whole family with room to spare. McComsey built the 9,000 square-foot home to spec, including the masonry fireplace, hand-nailed hardwood floors, and custom built-ins finishing nearly every room.
The Details
Eight bedrooms and seven and a half bathrooms mean every family member, from grandparents to grandkids, has their own room and their own bathroom when the whole family is home for the holidays.
A covered outdoor kitchen and sitting area sit on the riverside of the house, giving the family a place to grill, host, and watch the kids on jet skis from the same spot.
A climate-controlled cellar and tasting room gives the family’s wine collection a permanent home in the house.
A dedicated movie theatre gives the family one room where everyone can gather at the end of a long day on the river.
Floors installed the traditional way, hand-nailed for a level of craftsmanship that holds up across decades of family traffic.
A real masonry fireplace anchors the main living area as a gathering point through every season.
Custom cabinetry and built-ins finish nearly every room, so storage and display are designed into the architecture instead of added later.
A backyard pool with a dedicated changing area makes the river-to-pool transition seamless, keeping wet swimsuits and towels out of the main house.
Two additional gathering rooms beyond the main living area, so different generations can spread out without leaving the house.
An outdoor sitting space sheltered from the elements, expanding the home's usable space across the seasons.
A separate garage that keeps vehicles, gear, and the 4-wheelers out of the main living spaces.
