The Story
Matt and Paige had lived next door for years before they bought this 1900s stone home. They came to McComsey wanting to honor its history while adding the space, flow, and amenities their growing family needed to gather and host.
Before
The house had history and character on its side, but the inside no longer matched what their family needed. Here’s what stood in the way:
Design
The architect on this project worked from the Midwest, so most planning meetings happened over Zoom, Meet, and FaceTime calls from the job site. Pictures and videos went back and forth daily, keeping every decision aligned across the historic restoration and new addition without anyone losing visibility into what was happening on the ground.
The Details
Walnut and oak trees taken down during construction were milled into the built-in tops and flooring throughout the house, keeping a piece of the original landscape inside the new home.
The original “Valley Forge White” stone foundation was cleaned and restored, and the new addition was built from matching local stone so the expansion reads as part of the original house from the street.
An extra-deep basement, dug five feet lower than the original foundation, makes room for a professional golf simulator and gives the family a year-round entertaining space.
A new pool, patio, hot tub, and outdoor kitchen sit at the rear of the corner-lot property alongside a detached garage, giving the family year-round space for pool parties, kids’ games, and gatherings with friends.
Recognized by the West Chester Downtown Foundation for thoughtfully restoring the home's exterior and "Valley Forge White" stone foundation while expanding for modern life.

The original house wasn't square or level, so the team aligned every floor, beam, and finish so the transition between original and addition feels seamless.

Matt and Paige now have a home that honors its history and supports the way they want to live. Their kids run between the pool, the game room, and the theater while friends gather around the bar or the outdoor kitchen, all inside the 1900s stone home Matt and Paige first fell for next door.
