The Story
The homeowners live in Minnesota and Ohio but ride with Cheshire Hunt in Pennsylvania horse country. They came to us to tear down an old barn and apartment and build a new home and equestrian barn that could house their horses and host the friends who come along for the ride.

Before
The family wasn’t trying to fix a primary residence. They needed a Pennsylvania home base for the rides and the friends who joined them. Here’s what they were working with:
Design
Archer Buchanan Architects designed the home and barn to work as a single property: a place to keep the family’s horses, let the riders rest, and host the friends who come along. Our team built every piece, from the custom cabinetry milled in our own shop to the standing seam roof and the brick entry floor that runs through to the barn.
The Details
A new equestrian barn topped with a large lit cupola gives the family a proper home for their horses and a working place to host the guests who come to ride.
The stalls line a wood-paneled corridor that gives the family’s horses a true home, finished with the same craftsmanship as the residence beside them.
A custom-railed spiral staircase leads up to the man cave, a dedicated retreat for the homeowner and his guests.
The kitchen flows into the living room of the owners’ apartment, with custom millwork wrapping the wood-paneled TV wall and tying the space together.
A traditional brick entry floor that runs through to the barn, hardwearing and visually anchoring.
Architectural detail that signals real craftsmanship and weathers decades.
Painted exterior siding combining durability with traditional barn aesthetic.
Solid oak with the character marks that give it real personality, running through the home and apartment.
Every cabinet built in McComsey's own shop, designed to fit each room exactly.
The primary bathroom is finished entirely in tile and glass, with a spacious walk-in shower.
A separate garage adjacent to the home and barn for the family's vehicles and gear.
The result
The family now has a Cochranville home base with a barn for their horses, a tack room for the gear, an apartment for themselves, and rooms enough for the friends who ride with them. They’re now considering expanding the home, a sign the property has become more than just a place to visit.
